Introduction:

Hemija Commerce is a family-owned business based in Novi Sad, Serbia, specializing in the production and distribution of grain-based products such as buckwheat, millet, rice, oats, barley, spelt, and white corn. The goal of this project is to redesign the packaging of Hemija Commerce products to improve product recognition and create a more modern and consistent visual identity.

Objectives:

  • Improve product recognition through thoughtful design.
  • Create a unified brand identity.
  • Modernize the packaging to appeal to contemporary consumers.
  • Differentiate product types through color schemes and typography.

Current Hemija Commerce Package Design

Research & Analysis:

  • Research on competing grain-based product packaging.
  • Identification of design elements that communicate product purpose effectively.
  • Analysis of how color, typography, and layout impact consumer perception.

Brand Identity Development:

  • Development of a consistent visual identity system.
  • Design of a new brand symbol featuring a bowl and whisk to represent the baking theme.
  • Selection of a color palette that differentiates product types.
  • Creation of typography guidelines, using bold, grain-textured fonts to convey product nature.

Packaging Design:

  • Design of new packaging layouts using paper containers to align with industry standards.
  • Introduction of a rolled top design for easier consumer handling.
  • Prominent placement of Hemija Commerce initials on each package.
  • Clear labeling to ensure product type recognition at a glance.

Final Design Delivery:

  • Finalization of packaging designs.
  • Preparation of print-ready files in AI, PDF, and EPS formats.
  • Creation of packaging templates for future product lines.

Deliverables:

  • Brand guidelines document.
  • Packaging design files.
  • Prototypes and mockups.

Conclusion:

This project will help Hemija Commerce modernize their product packaging, strengthen their brand identity, and improve customer understanding of their products.

Reflection:

Working on this project allowed me to explore the importance of cohesive branding in product design. I learned how design choices like typography, color, and layout can significantly impact consumer perception. This experience also helped me better understand the process of creating a unified visual identity and translating it into practical packaging solutions.
